RAPID CITY HOMESCHOOL MUSIC
Welcome!
Rapid City Homeschool Choir, Band, and Orchestra is proud to offer high-quality group music instruction to the Black Hills homeschool community. Whether your student is picking up an instrument for the first time or has been playing for years, we can't wait to make music together this year!
Be sure to also read the details on your specific class page — that's where you'll find class times and supply lists.
Exciting Changes for 2026/2027!
📍 We have a new home! We're excited to now be meeting at Bible Fellowship Church, 1212 E Fairmont St, Rapid City — just a couple blocks from our previous location.
💵 A simple, all-in price. Our pricing has updated, but we think it's still a great value: $300 for a full year of music education per class (that's $150 per semester, cleaning fee included ).
🕐 Most class times are staying the same, with the exception of Beginning Band — check your class page for exact timing.

Concerts
A quick note on attendance: when you enroll, we're counting on your student to be part of the concert! We understand conflicts and sickness happen sometimes, but our program is built around every student being present — each voice and instrument matters to the whole group.
💛 Suggested concert donation: $5 per person. Copyright law means we can't charge admission, but this small donation goes a long way in keeping our program affordable for everyone — thank you for your generosity!
👔 Concert Dress: White shirt (no logos, button down preferred), black pants, black skirts, black shoes and socks.
Tuition & Fees
✨ $150 per class, per semester (Prelude Choir is the exception - $100 per semester).
Cleaning costs are already built in, so there's nothing extra to add on.
Tuition is due at the start of each semester and can be split into two payments of $75 if that's helpful for your family.
Refund Policy: Because of the upfront cost of music and supplies, refunds are limited to a maximum of $50 if a class turns out not to be the right fit (exceptions considered at director discretion). No refunds are available after 4 classes.
Scholarship Fund — Coming Soon!
We believe every homeschool family who wants music in their student's life should have access to it. That's why we're building a donation page and sponsorship program to help fund a scholarship fund, so cost is never the reason a family has to say no.
We're working hard to have this program up and running by fall — stay tuned for details on how to apply or how to give!
We're actively looking for partners, businesses, and individuals to help us build this fund. If you have suggestions or would like to be part of our scholarship fund, please contact us — we'd love to talk with you!
Not Sure Which Level Fits Your Student?
No problem! If you're new to our program and aren't sure what level your student should start at, just reach out to the instructor for that class — see the Director Contact Info below. They're happy to help you find the right fit.
New Students Joining for Spring Semester
-
Allegro Choir is always open to new students.
-
Prelude Choir gives preference to students who attended in the fall, but there are usually spots available.
-
Already play an instrument? Reach out directly — Paula Meloy for band, Kate Mathews for strings, or Rebecca Freidel for guitar (see contact info below).
-
New to Beginner Band, Beginner Strings, or Beginner Guitar? We recommend enrolling in the fall semester — spring availability for new beginner students varies, so please reach out to the class director to check before enrolling.
Returning Students
Unless you've been told otherwise, simply sign up for the same class you were in during the fall semester.
Policies
A few helpful reminders to keep rehearsals running smoothly for everyone:
-
💧 Please have your children bring a water bottle to practices.
-
⏰ Students should arrive 10 minutes before rehearsal time, ready to start promptly (see your class page for exact start time).
-
📵 Cell phones must be put away during rehearsals. Please have this conversation with your older students ahead of time — failure to be respectful with cell phones will get a student removed from class.
-
🌳 Outside play on the playground behind the church, as well as the front, is allowed as long as an adult is present.
-
🚫 The gym is not available for use as a play area.🤫 If you're heading to the restrooms or the playground, please walk through quietly without talking so classes aren't interrupted.
-
🚷 The upstairs entrance and upstairs section of the church, as well as the the youth area off the bathrooms, is off-limits, out of respect for keeping those areas quiet for the pastors. Please have a conversation with your music student about this ahead of time.
-
📚 Tables will be set up in the foyer outside the gym, and in the hallway off the foyer, for homeschool work. Please help keep this area as quiet as possible.
-
👀 Our directors are busy teaching all day and aren't able to keep an eye on unaccompanied children. If you're able to stay, please keep an eye on any children around you whose parents aren't present — if they need correction, please kindly but firmly do so.
-
🔧 If any damage occurs during our music day, the directors will determine which children will help contribute toward the cost of repair.
