BLACK HILLS STRING ENSEMBLE
***This is not a beginning string class. Students need to have studied several years on their stringed instruments, READ music proficiently and have permission from the director to join.***

Who:
1st Semester:
Homeschool students ages 10-18
who have had previous playing experience and have successfully completed Essential Elements Book 2,
or equivalent book 2 note reading method.
2nd Semester:
Returning string students. New students that have auditioned with Ms. Meloy that are playing
around the same level as the current string group.
When: Wednesdays
1st Semester:
September 11 - December 11, 2024 (no rehearsal on November 26th)
2nd Semester:
January 15 - April 9, 2025 (there are no skipped rehearsals this semester)
Time: 9:30-10:30 A.M.
Where: Black Hills Community Church (618 E. Elk St. Rapid City)
Cost: $100 + $25 yearly insurance/cleaning fee due at first rehearsal
The $25 yearly fee covers our cleaning cost as well as the liability insurance we now have to carry.
Concert Dress: White shirt, black pants, black shoes and socks. No logos on shirts.

This semester, we will be focusing only on stringed orchestra instruments: violin, viola, cello, and bass.
Supply list: (what you must bring to class): An instrument that is in good repair, rosin, chin rest, folding music stand, last year's binder - 3 ring binder (must be able to stay open on music stand), 6 plastic sheets, and 2 pencils.
***All students should arrive 10 minutes before rehearsal time, and be set up and ready to play at 9:20.
***All cell phones MUST be turned off and stored in instrument cases during rehearsals.
***Children must remain in the building at all times from the time they are dropped off until they are picked up. We are not allowing any outside play.
***We are in a church who has graciously allowed us to use their space. Please take off shoes and boots at the door if they are muddy.
